It's not a myth - Most kids hate vegetables!
Notice I didn't say "all" and I do love how I hear more & more these days about youngens loving their vegetables, but in my opinion this is kind of like a new trend such as the whole foods craze, because growing up when I did you signed the petition & hopped on the anti-vegetable committee, if only in your mind, but you still made a pact with yourself.
I remember my grandmother in Florida threatening me to eat her string beans as I cried & pouted & rebelled for over two hours.
I think I eventually ended up snorting some up my nose in dismay.
(Not limited to just veggies...)
Things like applesauce, Spinach, Squash, Zucchini, Tapioca, and Kidney Beans made me want to cry at the mere thought of them.
Things like turnip were unheard of, but you'd give the word a lil giggle
("Mofos & old people food." That's what you were thinking, right?)
And now?........
NOW?!?
Better watch your back cause I'll come up on your ass in the grocery store & run you down on one of them scooters like Santa on the way to his Amphetamine dealer.

Gimme all your vegetables!
This dude's packing some serious drugs in those boxes, not dollies & chocolates.

I've come for your brussels sprouts.
Just kidding. I don't even like brussell sprouts.
I'll never like those. I'm not that crazy.
In fact, brussels sprouts & cabbage should get together for a suicide orgy.
I'm pretty sure brussels sprouts are actually just the evil demon spawns of the unholy that is cabbage.
I'm also pretty sure this is what an adult candy store looks like...

Not even sure if they both are cabbage. Who cares, it is the Antichrist.
But my taste buds go into frenzies for crisp, fresh bell peppers, tomato slices, stalks of celery, grilled asparagus & corn, piles of plain, boiled spinach with nothing on it.
It goes deeper - I require applesauce. I wouldn't be insane enough to have pork chops without it.
I love tapioca balls, and I so have to refrain from making a statement here about them in my mouth.
(*Wipes sweat off brow*)

I didn't......but I like, did......Know what I mean?
But back to the topic at hand, could you pass me those turnips? Because I seem to have left my entire dinner just to eat the whole bowl.
In fact, every thing's dead in the garden because I was out there earlier eating all the seedlings out of the ground like a fuckin' Brontosaurus.
More re-fried beans, please!!
How long before I'm using my senior discount card to enjoy a nice, cold prune juice on tap?
Maybe garnished with a radish. *Vomit*
It kind of just progresses- Loving the things we once had an absolute hatred for as we grow older.
And you know it goes much deeper than vegetables because it's happened to you too.
Don't deny it. We all have things we love that we once hated or turned us off.
Now I'm thinking I should cut this off before it goes where the tapioca thing went...
Ever had something you've grown more fond of that you maybe once despised?
(Did you hate your damn veggies? Did you snort pole beans? Cause I totally didn't, although I can't remember what had happened to those things that night. The trauma that was blanked it out.)
Or better yet, some tastes you just know will never change for you? Like cabbage & lentils.
Could you hand me that bag please? Thanks.

lmfao! This reminded me of the time when my mom made my black ass sleep at the kitchen table for not finishing my peas. She told me I wouldn't be allowed to leave the damn table unless I ate them all...I shoved them in my underwear instead when I woke up ;) They felt all squishy and nice down there lol
ReplyDeleteOMG, that's hilarious!! That's epic, Falen. Rol
ReplyDeleteI'm gonna be laughing about that all night.
LOL @ that Santa photo! And "suicide orgy?" Nice! Like Falen, I spent half of the night at the dinner table over cabbage. It took roughly four hours to down that cold cabbage by the time I was done. Now I'm cool with cabbage (which is not too many words removed from "garbage").
ReplyDeleteI always liked vegetables if I could eat them raw. Where I was a little freak was in being a kid that hated fruit. Green seedless grapes I could handle, but that was about it.
ReplyDeleteQuincy, That doesn't make sense does it? Now that I think about it. There would have to be more to make an orgy.
ReplyDeleteFunny stories!! Hahaha
Tatty - I was never TOO big on fruit either till I got older. Now I love it so much, I am a fruit.
It would make me smile to see a lil kid snacking on a pea pod or the like. I grew up during what I consider the rebellion.
I love me some broccoli and asparagus.
ReplyDeleteMy kids, on the other hand, hate veggies in any way shape or form.
So I got sneaky.
I made them homemade mac and cheese. But I blended up some cauliflower and added it into the mix. You couldn't taste a damn thing, and it was a serving and a half of veggies for each kid! Mwaaa ha ha ha!!!
Still No veggies, despite spending 45 years on this planet I still can't bring myself to eat the dreaded veg. The things I hated as a kid, like curry, which I was not forced to eat, I actually love now.
ReplyDeleteI’m not afraid to say that Vegetables have a life sentence in my book, with no chance of parole. I believe I am still battled scarred from the years of Veggie wars that I campaigned against my parents. I finally won through Gorilla tactics that Che Guevara would have been proud of, I started to put the evil Veg in my pockets and distribute them around the garden, unfortunately for my parents these were the bad old day of English cooking where everything was cooked to a messy pulp (so there would have been no benefit in eating the damn things anyway, the last vestiges of goodness being boiled away into the no doubt healthy atmosphere) so more stayed in my pocket than ever got distributed.
P.S. This has no Dr Seuss - Green Eggs and ham style happy ending
I do not like Veg on a plate.
I do not like them in my fate.
I will not take them raw or boiled.
I will not take them steamed or broiled.
No fan I am of the Veg at hand.
Destroy the veg! Today! Today!
Today I say!
Without delay!
Today’s rant was brought to you by the letter V
as in Vomit and Vegetable – two words that go hand in hand for me…
Lost.In.Idaho - That's very clever, I love it! Hahaha. It also actually sounds delicious. I like broccoli in my mac & cheese.
ReplyDeleteBlackLOG - Classic!
You're bionic. You know what, don't listen to any possible nay sayers. Supposedly the body needs water in the same way it needs vegetable nutrients, but my exes' grandfather never drank a glass of water in his life. He'd say it rusts the stomach & crack open a beer instead, and that man lived to be 93 years old.
This kind of boggles me, though, how back in the day things like scurvey would run rampant, and now it seems the average human could go ages without fruit & get away with it. Probably because so much else is fortified these days.
I also wish I could like curry. I've tried & tried. Maybe someday. My grandmother would be disappointed. She loved the stuff.
LMFAO I like what you did with the tapioca.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was growing up, I was so so on the veggies, but I liked most of them. One thing I didn't like was pumpkin soup. The way my grandma made it once, when i was 9 years old, made take about 5 hours to finish it. I then barfed it all out.
Now I love that damn soup.
It's so true what you say about people changing what they like or dislike over the years. Love the pic of the crazed, vegetable-addicted Santa on his scooter. I don't know whether to throw a grenade at him or send him to rehab. I see you really DIG your veggies. Literally DIG... in your garden. Poor little seedlings. Bastards never had a chance.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a kid I hated mushrooms, broccoli, spinach, green beans and tomatoes. Now I like all of them except tomatoes and spinach. Had a bad personal experience with evil tomatoes as a kid. Left me scarred for life. Other veggies I can't get enough of include: Corn, red, yellow, green bell peppers and turnips (with melted butter seasoned with garlic and fresh ground pepper). I'm sure there's more but I gotta keep this short. Yeah, right. :)
You've provided us with a hilarious and insightful post, LilPixi. Here's to hoping your day is both fruitful and vegetable. Love, Farts & Turnips!
PorkStar, you totally just reminded me of my hatred for pumpkin, which I forget to mention.
ReplyDelete(Anything with the word balls in it. I just can't help it. Or my mind's just too sick.)
Get this too, ya'll.....I HATE gingerbread.
But I LOVE playing with it. Dunno if it will ever grow on me.
Kelly, I hated mushrooms too. Now I'm ALL about the extra mushrooms. Just starting to adjust more to tomatoes.
And now it is noon & I am very hungry with all kinds of flavors & colors floating around in my head.
I just pictured the whole grenade scenario. I have a very visual mind. Hahaha. Hilarious!
I'll be getting around to reading & commenting on your blogs in just a bit. Been trying to get more done & off the computer more these days. My apologies.
And love, farts, and turnips, Kelly. It's brilliant!
Yeah I just threw up in my mouth a little.
